Sandy Embroidery - Part 2
In an article published the 24th October 2025, I wrote about a special experience of peacefulness and ephemeral view, about the powerful sensation of being alone, but still surrendered by living things.
This article was about the beginning of a creative journey, transforming a memory into a stitched wall art.
Nearly 11 months after the publishing of this article, this work is reaching an end. Every time I have been sitting at my loom I was happy and exactly where I was supposed to be.
I started Sandy Embroidery (temporary title) in July 2024 during the summer event of Open Studios Hebrides. At this time I was sharing the Boatman House, in Stornoway, with Eilidh Thompson where we displayed our works and welcome visitors.
This year I was in a more central and more accessible place, the Stornoway Town Hall. Once again I took my loom and carried on on the stabbing and stitching the canvas. I will never forget your faces, all of you, for 6 days, showing interest, smiling and gratifying my work and my style, supporting me. And what about children, opening widely their eyes with honesty and expressing their curiosity with loud onomatopoeia of joy and admiration for what they were watching? There is nothing better than the honest heart of a child.
I am not sure I will finish it before my annual leave in September but for sure this autumn, I will add the last stitch and have it framed. Then it will be available for sale.
