Logbook November 2025

Logbook November 2025

Hello,

This is November again and I am still settling in my new studio. The move started in July when I emptied this narrow room under the roof and packed boxes and boxes of material, tools and stuffs.

My new studio is literally under the first one, smaller but containing my overflowing imaginative mind and this characteristic is very important. There is one window, one door, four walls – 2 are painted with large strips of orange and pink – less light but it is my space. I don’t have to crouch anymore to circulate in this space. I can close the door like I can close a box and I love this.

The installation is not yet finished, we are going to improve the lightning, however I have been creating more than producing. This has been my black spot for the 18 month: producing to have enough choice for each gallery, to provide as many possibility as possible for the clients. Unfortunately this approach has drained out my motivation and even took me away from my sewing machine for Dragons Are Real but also for my personal projects. From here grew slowly but well rooted a frustration that lead me to abandon my work bench, dreaming of what I wanted to make but only dreaming and not doing. I have been hooked on screens, social media spending hours scrolling but not interacting or thinking.

After many attempts to control the use of these platforms, I came back from a summer holiday of 2 weeks, disconnected, barely using my phone. I didn’t even took much photos.

This has been a rejuvenating suspended time. Back at home, I reduced my time but still it was not enough. I finally delated the Instagram app from my Ipad (it is more than a year I had removed it from my phone) and stopped pretend that it was important for Dragons Are Real. My account is still existing and I will post sometime but I disagree with the rules of this game so I am not playing anymore. I could spend hours to chat and argued about the pro and con of such tools as yes there is benefits but I won’t.

Moving in a new studio has been the kick I needed to undertake a long time goal: stop buying material and use the resources I have under my hands. In boxes and drawers I have been collecting – hoarding, let's face the truth – fabrics, buttons, lace, beads, ropes, paper, thread, yarn, etc ... I have many ideas of what I am going to make with all of this but this time I am making my ideas a reality.

What made me happy lately is that I have been able to achieve what I was longing to do like finishing my long embroidery project (that was the subject of my last blog article). I have took out my notebooks about plant dye and started a new batch of various fibers to experiment on. Also, I had an evening and improvising new baskets with small rope. I will show you soon but I have already name this design Poppy.

I have been very slow to write this logbook and I had planned to post it in October but my calendar jumped directly to November ! Strange !

I am now updating the boutique and adding Christmas colours for the festive season.

Take care,

Mathilde
